MEET OUR NEW LEADERSHIP!
Governor-Elect: Cathrine Wheeler, MD FACP
About Cathrine:
Cathrine Wheeler, MD, FACP graduated from The University of Washington School of Medicine (Idaho WWAMI student) and completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Washington. She practices general internal medicine at Swedish Ballard Primary Care in Ballard, Seattle. Her completion of a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Fellowship in 2023 provided in-depth leadership training with an emphasis in health care equity. As part of that program, she built a street medicine outreach team (Mobile Health Outreach) that provides back-pack medical care to individuals living unhoused in King County. She has taught medical students for years as a volunteer attending for University of Washington’s Student Health Initiative for Access, as well as community work for King County Public Health Reserve Corps. She is the primary care representative on the Credential Committee for Swedish Medical Group. In her free time she enjoys skiing with her husband, stand-up paddle boarding with her son and yellow lab, and listening to live music.
ACP Involvement:
My involvement with ACP over the years has helped me to appreciate the depth within the organization. I’ve had the opportunity to present on physician well-being and provider burn-out at the annual chapter meeting. I served on the Executive Committee for 4 years as one of the Well-Being Co-Champions (2019-2023), and served for several years as the women-in-medicine committee co-chair. Last year I joined the chapter’s advocacy committee. Most recently I became one of the Lean-In-Circle Leaders for a new ACP program to support women in professional and leadership development. My commitment to the chapter was acknowledged in 2022 with the Kemi Nakabayashi Washington ACP Chapter Service Award.
Why Governor?
I have witnessed first had the variety and value of resources that ACP offers to it’s members as they practice in an increasingly complex medical environment. My priorities as Governor will be to help members customize these resources for their personal and professional growth and professional satisfaction. My vision includes partnering with community organizations to offer members an opportunity to work together in an annual community service project that will build collegiality and spread the message of the work that ACP is doing. It’s also critical to continue to build membership and leadership participation within our chapter from individuals with a variety of backgrounds and experiences across the state.
